Research question and scope
Discuss whether the question is focused enough, what evidence may be needed and how the scope fits the assessment.
IB core and internal assessment
Plan the work clearly while keeping the work your own.
IB Extended Essay and internal assessment guidance helps students understand the task, refine research questions, plan a structure and discuss the reasoning behind their work. Guidance supports the learning process; students remain responsible for their own research, analysis and submitted writing.
What you can work on
Discuss whether the question is focused enough, what evidence may be needed and how the scope fits the assessment.
Map the task into sections, milestones and decisions so the student knows what to work on next.
Guidance can question assumptions, clarify logic and explain expectations without writing the student’s work for them.
Academic integrity
For IA, Extended Essay, oral work or other assessments, tutoring helps students understand expectations, organise thinking and practise expression. Students remain responsible for their own submitted research, analysis and writing.
